Match Report v Berkshire 2022

SURREY PAST LADY CAPTAINS  v  BERKSHIRE PAST LADY CAPTAINS

The match this year was held at Burhill on a beautiful warm spring day.    The ladies were able to sit out on the terrace to enjoy their sandwiches before the match.     The match was played on the Old Course which l think everyone enjoyed and we had some very close matches two were halved and one ended on 18th.

The ladies changed for dinner which was held upstairs in the Wellington Room.    We had a two course meal with a glass of wine and there was a very good atmosphere with lots of laughter and  it actually felt like old times!

The overall result was that Burhill won by 5 matches to 3.

Match Report v Hampshire 2022

SURREY PAST LADY CAPTAINS  v  HAMPSHIRE PAST LADY CAPTAINS

This year this match was held at Blackmoor which is a beautiful course near Bordon.    Sadly, they had a serious problem with their greens so that the match had to be played on temporary greens and on only 15 holes.    This was very disappointing for all the members who had been looking forward to playing this course and it was particularly difficult for them as a number of their handicaps were lower than those of the Hampshire team!    However, the match was played in a good spirit and Hampshire won 5-3.

The ladies then really enjoyed an excellent carvery with plenty of vegetables followed by a delicious raspberry panacotta.

Match Report v Kent 2022

SURREY LADY CAPTAINS v KENT PAST LADY CAPTAINS 2022

We were due to play this match at The Darenth Golf Club near Sevenoaks in July but owing to the very hot weather at the time we postponed it to 26th September. It was a very windy day with some very heavy showers so we were all constantly putting wet weather on then taking it off as it was too windy for umbrellas! The Darenth is an undulating parkland course and our team found it very tricky as the grass in front of the green was quite long stopping any balls bouncing on to the green. Sadly we lost 6 ½ to 1 ½ but I think everyone enjoyed the challenge and we all enjoyed a good plate of lasagne and chips followed by the chefs own cheesecake to finish the day!

Match Report v Sussex 2022

SURREY LADY CAPTAINS v SUSSEX PAST LADY CAPTAINS 2022

Our match with Sussex this year was due to take place in August but due to a very wet day it was postponed and we were very pleased to be able to fit it in before their change of Captain. Thankfully it was a fine dry day but quite windy as there had been a good deal of rain a few days before. Sussex all arrived very early and after a good chat some coffee and sandwiches we set forth!
The course was in good condition having recovered well from the very dry summer and we just managed to get all the matches finished before it was too dark! The ladies all changed for the meal and judging by the noise in the dining room this was enjoyed by all.
Happily Surrey won by 5 matches to 3 which was a very good result
